Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Candidly ("the app") is a remote desktop app developed by Garrett Franks. It lets you see and control your own Mac from an iPhone, iPad or another Mac. This policy describes what data the app handles and where it goes.
Data We Collect
None. Candidly has no account, no servers and no analytics. Nothing you do in the app is sent to the developer or to any third party.
Your Computers and Settings
The computers you save (their names, addresses, port, user name and connection settings) are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, they are also kept in sync across your own devices through Apple's iCloud key-value storage, in your private iCloud account. The developer has no access to them.
Passwords
If you choose to save a computer's password, it is stored in the Keychain and synced through iCloud Keychain, which Apple encrypts end to end. Passwords are never written to any other file, never logged and never sent to the developer.
Your Screen, Keyboard, Mouse and Clipboard
While you are connected, the picture of your Mac's screen, your keystrokes and pointer movements, and (if clipboard sync is on) text you copy travel directly between your device and the Mac you are connecting to, using the Screen Sharing built into macOS. They do not pass through any server run by the developer and are not stored by the app.
Your password is always sent in encrypted form, and keystrokes sent to a Mac are encrypted. The screen picture, pointer movements and clipboard text are not encrypted by the connection itself. On your home network that is usually fine; away from home, connect through a private network such as Tailscale or a VPN, which encrypts everything in transit.
When clipboard sync is on, Candidly reads text you copy so it can send it to your Mac. On a Mac, items that password managers mark as private are never sent.
Local Network
Candidly asks for permission to use your local network so it can find Macs with Screen Sharing turned on and connect to them. Discovery happens only on your network; nothing about it leaves your devices.
Face ID and Touch ID
If you require Face ID or Touch ID for a computer, the check is performed by your device. The app only learns whether it succeeded and never has access to your biometric data.
In-App Purchases
If the app offers subscriptions or other purchases, they are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. The developer never receives your payment details. Purchases are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Analytics & Advertising
Candidly contains no analytics, tracking SDKs, crash reporters, or advertising of any kind.
Children's Privacy
Candidly does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
