How do I set up my Mac?

On the Mac you want to control, open System Settings, then General, then Sharing, and turn on Screen Sharing. Candidly signs in with that Mac's user name and password, the same ones you use at its login screen.

My Mac doesn't show up under Nearby

Check that Screen Sharing is on and that both devices are on the same network. On iPhone and iPad, Candidly also needs Local Network access: open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Local Network, and turn on Candidly. You can always add a Mac by hand with its name (for example Your-Mac.local) or its IP address.

Can I connect from away from home?

Yes. The simplest way is Tailscale: install it on your Mac and on your iPhone or iPad, sign in to the same account on both, and use the Mac's Tailscale name as the computer's address. Tailscale also encrypts the connection.

Is my connection private?

Your password and keystrokes are sent encrypted, but the screen picture and clipboard are not encrypted by Screen Sharing itself. At home that is usually fine. Over the internet, use Tailscale or a VPN. More detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Where are my computers and passwords saved?

On your devices, kept in sync through your own iCloud account. Saved passwords live in iCloud Keychain. Candidly has no servers and no account.

What's the difference between Touch and Trackpad mode?

In Touch mode, the pointer jumps to wherever you tap. In Trackpad mode, the whole screen works like a laptop trackpad and the pointer moves relative to your finger. Both modes share the same gestures: two-finger tap to right-click, two-finger swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom, and press and hold to drag.

I found a bug, or have an idea

I'd like to hear about it. Email lgfz71@gmail.com with your device, the Mac's macOS version, what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
